Since the beginning of the 20th Century, the United States has significantly influenced the direction of music throughout the world. From spirituals to folk to blues to jazz and rock and roll, the “American Sound” has become a major contribution to our global society.

Select at least two songs/pieces from the selected listening to discuss.

Identify what is the “American Sound.” Be specific in terms of music elements (Rhythm, Melody, Harmony Timbre, Form). You can reference the chapter text in Module 14 or use any outside sources.

Identify specific places in the chosen music selections (time stamp) that are examples of the “American Sound.”
