1. Ben Franklin’s 12 Rules of Management, by Blaine McCormick.
This book reviews the life of Ben Franklin not as a politician but as a business manager. Franklin was one of the most influential and successful business owners in Colonial America. He was so successful that he could retire at the age of 42 to pursue other interests, including politics.
The principles that he followed to success are still applicable today. A lot can be gained about a principled approach to managing businesses from reading this book. This book is highly recommended, especially for anyone who may someday want to run their own business.
2. Write a 5-7 paper covering the following:
a. INTRODUCTION (a statement of the purpose of the paper and what will be covered)
b. A SUMMARY of the book: What is the book’s purpose, how is the subject covered, and what are the key points in the book.
c. DISCUSS THREE THINGS you learned from reading the book you did not previously know related to management. Explain each one in some detail, including examples. Discuss why each one is important to know or be aware of as a manager. How will each one help you be a better manager?
d. A SUMMARY of the paper-a brief (one or two paragraphs) summary restating the key learning points, your learnings, and their importance.
The paper should have a cover page and an abstract. This paper does not require additional outside references except for a reference page for the book reviewed.
