Personal Statement
Rewrite the below personal statement addressing on life science, such as cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology.
Life science is a broad and profound discipline, which is the foundation stone of human achievements in medicine, science, technology and agriculture. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, life science has played an important role in gene sequencing, tracing the source of virus, and developing related vaccines. Therefore, I discovered my favor towards life science, and strongly dedicated myself towards Biotechnology. Through my study in university and the explanations given by professors, my passion towards life sciences has increased over the years, and continues to do so.
During the first three years in college, I have learned many courses that related to life science, such as cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and that knowledge made me better understand the chemical composition, the structure and various chemical changes in the process of life at different levels including cell level, population level or molecular level. The more I learn, the more I am interesting in life science. I deeply realized the importance of life science in today’s society and played an indispensable role in promoting social and human development. In addition, I also studied many clinical and pharmaceutical related courses, such as physiology, pharmacology and pharmacy, to have a better understand of various normal or abnormal life phenomena, activity rules and their generation mechanisms, the effects and mechanisms of various drugs, clinical application and adverse effects. And the most importantly, I understand the urgency of improving drug quality and developing new drugs in the world, which makes me love the field of life science more.
I also really love and enjoy the research studies. I joined the lab work since my sophomore year, and started to assist the postgraduate students on the basic experimental operation and the use of experimental instruments. Attending the weekly research meeting, and reading the literature in my spare time made me fully fall in love with science and research. Not only did I learn many experimental skills, better understand research status worldwide, but also improved my ability of time management and communication skills. In my second semester of sophomore year, I participated and won the college student innovation and entrepreneurship competition, and awarded to be the leader of the research project “evaluation of the depression states of rats during establishing experimental model and recovery”. Working this project, not only improved my ability to solve problems and creativity, but also improved my organizational and leadership skills, which made me feel the importance of teamwork. I also won the first prize in the biomedical experimental skills competition during my junior year.
When I was a freshman, the department organized us to visit Weifang Kanghua Biotechnology Co., Ltd. We visited the production workshop, the working environment of the researchers and the research results of the company, and learned about the company’s scale, establishment process and future planning. This internship benefited me a lot. It broadened my horizons and saw the diversity of career choices and the charm of entrepreneurship while further understanding the application of biotechnology.
During my college years, I continued to develop my interests and hobbies, joined the instrumental music department of the art troupe, and showed my talents in many parties organized by the school. I also served as deputy director of learning department in the student union of the Department, which helped me develop leadership and communication skills. At the same time, I’m willing to challenge myself, so I joined the plum blossom boxing martial arts association in the school. By learning martial arts, I not only strengthen my physique but also temper my will, so that I can relax my body and mind after studying.
By studying within a continually evolving field, I would strive to develop extensive scientific knowledge during my time at university. I hope to apply this knowledge to make a significant impact to the lives of people and those around them. This, I personally deem, is what makes Biomedical Science such a rewarding career.
