The type of evidence produced through qualitative research that would be helpful to understand the practice issue of preventing and reducing pressure injuries would be observation. This would be more accurate, as most patients that require pressure injury interventions are unable to assess or verbalize their wounds or the area that is compromised. The other alternative would be to survey the staff that is implementing in the research, if there are any.
The qualitative research findings will help to shape efforts to improve the issue, primarily by helping the direction of how to improve pressure injury prevention. With utilizing observation, documentation of the observation, this data can help to determine the accuracy of the results.
Recently, we have a staff nurse on the unit, with the same concept of research for pressure injuries. She would send a pre-survey, in which staff submit answers to a hypothetical case study. At change of shift, during huddle, there was an education take place on the recent EBP for pressure injury prevention. Post-learning, there was another survey, with the same case study. This method would be a similar quantitative approach, as she first interviewed our answers, gave information and then re-assessed the learning through the surveys.
