Woodland management
Scenario
A local country estate has offered the chance to one student for work experience. Several students are interested in this opportunity and the estate manager has decided to run a competition to see who would best fit the role.
The estate manager has asked that all competition entrants produce a display and report exploring the management methods used to enhance biodiversity for two different types of woodland.
Tasks
The estate manager has asked you to produce a display and report demonstrating how you could use different management methods to enhance biodiversity for two different types of woodland.
Using case studies of two different types of woodland produce a scientific poster for the display, which shows:
A thorough, detailed and accurate account of the differences between woodland types and habitat characteristics and the consequent ecology of those woodlands. You will make links to the different fauna and flora found in each woodland type.
From the information you used to produce your poster you must now produce a written report in which you:
Evaluate the objectives of planned habitat management, methods selected and intended outcomes, giving a reasoned account of how it affects biotic and abiotic conditions and its impact on woodland ecology.
Produce a comprehensive review of one of the case studies, in which you review the success or failure of the management strategy to positively impact a target species.
You will show that you have a full appreciation of the interrelationship between the target species and other named species and their environment. You will accurately interpret detailed statistical evidence within your report.
