“Synthesizing Sources” in CEL Ch. 15, Analyzing, Synthesizing, and Evaluating Sources, p. 446-451
Assignment :
For this response, create a similar visual organizer for your central issue and main contribution (or stance). Use the example on p.447 as a guide.
Look over the visual organizer for synthesizing sources on p. 446 (Figure 15.1 — also represented above). Write down your topic (or issue) and your stance or main statement about it in the middle, and then to use the following kernel ideas to find other sources you can synthesize:
Supporting evidence
Background information about the topic
An opposing position or viewpoint
A similar situation or topic in history
An argument with similar values, assumptions, or hopes
Include at least 2 (two) sources that you could use to provide quotations or evidence for the outer “arms” or circles of your organizer. (For example, include an actual source that could provide “an opposing position or viewpoint”).
