1. Examine one of the themes in Lysistrata (i.e. war, power, subterfuge, justice, love, or?). Ask yourself questions like:What does the title mean? How is the audience introduced to the theme? What scenes develop the theme and how? Be sure to use examples from the play to support your position.
2. Choose one of the characters and examine how his or her role is defined by the historical period / setting- then compare his or her actions to current roles in society or a different setting. Do you think the character may have acted differently today or if in a different place? Why or why not?
3. Research the role of the Chorus in a play and explain what it is. Next analyze the role of the chorus in Lysistrata. Be sure to include examples from the play itself to support your position.
4. Examine the setting of the play. Where is the play set? Is it possible to change the setting? Have modern versions of the play experimented with different settings? What kind of mood does the setting create and how does it create that mood? How and why is the setting important?
