The Praxis of Their Work in the City
Ethnography research is a relational experience that entails observing people in their natural settings. However, with the method of ethnography and theology of urban mission in mind, this paper should seek to explore and assess a significant issue in Los Angeles and how the faith community responds to these Women’s contribution to the mission in the city/church.
The focus is on: Sister Aimee Semple McPherson, Bishop Barbara Harris, and Pastor Melissa Scott, Ph.D.
Your observation using your findings should tie in the lack of gender equality in the church. Some denominations and churches/institutions still don’t believe women should preach, be bishops, teach men, be ordained, etc. Draw out the possible stereotypes, challenges, and how these women rose above them to serve the city.
Ethnography observation entails analyzing collected data as participant observation. Instead, use the research you collect to look at the lives of historical women figures, contextually appropriate biblically informed missional action their stories. In order was, retell the story and explore their work in the city and how they fought through stereotypes to be instruments of God in the city still. And theirs is the praxis of empowerment.
