Dialogic teaching methods in science
Why are the following dialogic teaching methods useful in teaching ks2 primary science?
How do they support scientific thinking/reasoning, sharing ideas, working collaboratively and developing scientific language?
The methods:
Inviting children to give a reason for their ideas and opinions (Can you add’, ‘What?’ ‘Tell me’, ‘Can you rephrase this?’ ‘Do you think?’ ‘Do you agree?’)
Inviting children to ask each other questions about their ideas.
Make sure there are 5 references used. The references need to be articles that can be accessed and not locked articles that require a purchase.
Include a reason backed up by a reference , as to why a science lesson where only a few children who have their hands raised answering questions without much elaboration or further discussion between pupils may be problematic for learning.
