1. Description- Name what you see, list who is featured in the work, name what is included in the fresco, list the colors and objects. Much of this information you will learn from the video and by looking at the work carefully, but you may use other resources to better understand the work.
2. Analysis- What art elements (line, shape, color, texture, pattern, space, form, value) and what Principles of Design/composition are evident (rhythm, movement, balance, emphasis, unity, variety, repetition) did the artist use. What artistic skills, compositional approaches, techniques were used by Raphael? You may need to look up the definitions of the art elements and principles of design to help you better understand what the artist used and how they used those elements and principles to create the work.
3. Interpretation- What is the meaning, message, metaphors, and symbolism that is contained in the work. What was the purpose of the work or implied purpose? INCLUDE HISTORICAL INFORMATION (in 2nd link) ABOUT THE ARTIST. This will help you better critique the work and understand the symbolism mentioned in the video. This should be your longest paragraph because there is so much to cover. The video and your research will help you write this section of the art criticism.
4. Judgment – Do you think the work is successful or no? Why or why not? Explain your opinion but use facts and reference mages in the work to back up your opinion. Be specific, use more than one reason to support your claim. You may reference things you have seen in the video or that you researched. This section is considered persuasive writing.
