Recovery Testimony Assignment Instructions
Overview
Write your 2-page recovery testimony, detailing how Jesus helped you with a problem or life need.
Structure each section according to the details given below.
It would be wise to write out a first draft and practice sharing it. This will give you a gauge as to the need for information.
Use the following outline to prepare your story of how Jesus helped you with a problem or need in your life. This is particularly helpful in bridging the gap to share the gospel with the unsaved:
1. “My life seemed normal until…”
the death of oldest sister, my best friend. She was brutually beaten to death when she called off her engagement. He came to her house and told her that his daughter was in the hospital as a result of an accident and requested her presence. She got dressed and went with him. The was his scheme to get her out of the house. He took her to his house and brutually beat her to death , bathe and put night clothes on her. He left her in his house and went to work. He came home, called my niece and told her to meet him at the hospital because her mother was not breathing. I received a call from my family to come immediately to the hospital. The former green beret snapped and brutually beat her 108 lb frame to death. This occurred on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. I was completely devastated. I was angry at God. I questioned my faith in Him after praying for a miracle—for her to breathe on her own and call my name and be there for her children from a previous marriage. NO miracle. My hope was diminished. My faith crushed. Yet, I had to encourage and be the strength for my family.
2. “I discovered hope and help in Jesus when…”
3. “I am glad I have a personal relationship with Jesus today because…”
4. “May I share how something like this can happen to you?”
You will want to refer to many of the same concepts related to your conversion story. For instance, brevity is still required — try to stay around 2 – 3 minutes (roughly 2 pages of written text).
The heart of your recovery testimony is answering the first 3 questions above. Question number 4 is a transition question into a Gospel presentation. You are not required to write anything in reference to question four.
