This assessment requires students to describe key elements of research design. To complete this assessment, making sure to discuss:
Whether the study is quantitative, qualitative or uses a mixed-methods approach
Whether it is cross-sectional or longitudinal
Whether there is a control group (e.g. randomly assigned or matched)
A step-by-step explanation or ‘blueprint’ of how the research will be carried out
A clear rationale/argument as to why the proposed approaches have been chosen
The ethical considerations for the project
You will need to do extensive research to effectively and faithfully present the current ‘thinking’ in relation to each topic. Each key point you make needs to be validated with empirical research this is what will validate your argument and makes your work persuasive. It would be best to spend more time constructing effective sentences and paragraphs. Each sentence needs to address an assessment task directly.
The learning outcome for this task are:
1 Describe, explain and select an appropriate methodological approach and sampling strategy and design data collection instrument/s for a specified research project;
2 Describe and apply principles of ethical research;
3 Report the key elements of a written research proposal according to American Psychological Association guidelines;
4 Be cognizant of the range, complexity and value of criminological research
