Advocate Observation Report
Activities
1. Attend any advocacy meeting to observe and assess interactions between participants, communication styles, ethical and legal principles, and the effectiveness of the observed styles and processes.
2. Use the following template to evaluate the meeting and record your evaluation.
Meeting/Agency/Nurse (email or phone number) and type of activity
Mission/Vision or Purpose of Event
Contact person (and their role)
Date and hours
Who you observed and how decisions are made
Identify communication styles used by the participants in the meeting
Add more rows to the table, if needed.
3. Write at least 3 paragraphs to discuss the meeting and be sure to include your personal reflection and evaluation of the advocacy process.
Include the following points:
Summarize the process observed, the agenda of the meeting, and the results of the event attended:
Discuss the process of how the event was selected or nurse was chosen to shadow.
Summarize the topics discussed.
Identify legal and/or ethical issues considered during the individual’s or group’s decision making.
Personal reflection:
Discuss your observations about the advocacy process. Use specific language to discuss the role of advocacy in nursing.
Reflect on your overall impression of the event/nurse and the overall shadowing experience.
