Demonstrate detailed and comprehensive knowledge of environmental policies related to climate change and the protection of biodiversity, as well as the challenges associated with implementing these policies.

Answer each of the following questions in a three-part essay. Each question/part should be given approximately equal weighting in terms of word count.

(a) Evidence of Impact: Present an overview and analysis of the sector’s contribution to the environmental and climate emergency

(b) Policy solutions: Provide a critical assessment of current and potential policy solutions to tackling the environmental impacts of this sector, including the strengths and weaknesses of different policy instruments/ approaches

(c) Achieving change: Present an argument about the most urgent and critical actions to remedy the sector’s impact, including an assessment of the main obstacles to change

The following ILOs are being assessed in the essay:

1. Understand the environmental emergency from a trans-disciplinary perspective

2. Demonstrate detailed and comprehensive knowledge of environmental policies related to climate change and the protection of biodiversity, as well as the challenges associated with implementing these policies

6. Use lessons from research to inform policy development

Display knowledge and understanding of the sector’s contribution to the environmental and climate emergency backed up with empirical research evidence, examples and data

Display understanding of a range of policy instruments and solutions as well as a recognition of the trade-offs and challenges of implementing different options, and their relative strengths and weaknesses in terms of bringing about change

Show of awareness the range of actors involved in contributing to change/ different levels of action (e.g. individual, community, local & national government, supranational)

Display UK specific knowledge about the sector and policy options being currently used or considered by the UK government, whilst also showing an ability to draw on international experiences and evidence

Demonstrate detailed and comprehensive knowledge of environmental policies related to climate change and the protection of biodiversity, as well as the challenges associated with implementing these policies.
