Is it possible for the cinematic element in a fictional movie to play a significant role in conveying philosophical ideas (In a similar way as literature can)? Or are films just good thought experiments?
Film is nevertheless valuable in showing how a relatively abstract problem can have meaning to us as human beings. But One could argue that films focus on delivering these ideas in a more speculative and read between the lines kind of way. Films are also informed and conditioned by completely different interests and approaches.
It becomes less about an argued philosophical position than exploring the question that resonates with the audience on a more personal and emotional level. Whereas what we think of true “philosophy” works are mostly concentrated on explicit knowledge in an essentially intellectual and maximally even-headed way.
