Instructions for completing the simulation are included on the first page of the simulation. The first steps are to list out the Strengths, Weaknesses (internal), Opportunities and Threats (external) of your real or hypothetical healthcare organization. The next step is to develop strategies in each of the four inner boxes, for example, corresponding SO & ST strategies, and corresponding WO & WT strategies. As a jump start to your critical thinking, think of how the organization can maximize its strengths to take advantage of opportunities, and to address some external threats.

SWOT analysis is a strategic planning method used by many healthcare organizations to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture.
It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective.
Strengths are attributes of the organization that are helpful to achieving the objective.
Weaknesses are attributes of the organization that are harmful to achieving the objective.
Opportunities are external conditions that are helpful to achieving the objective.
