Assignment task
The responses and adaptations to aerobic exercise, with reference to performance in extreme environments & different populations
The task in detail:
Exercise 1 (executive summary, ~1500 words, 60%):
Based on the content of the module lectures and practical sessions, produce a concise executive summary that details the physiological responses and adaptations to endurance exercise in An extreme environment, e.g. heat, cold, high altitude, diving, zero gravity (Part 1, 750 words)
A ‘special’ population, e.g. males vs females, young vs old or spinal cord injury (Part 2, 750 words)
This report should include details of how the body responds and adapts differently to based on the environment/group discussed.
Exercise 2 (Lab report, ~1000 words, 40%):
Using data collected from a pre-determined practical experiment, write a laboratory report that analyses the results of the data collected.
The experiment it titled:
The relationship between lung function and maximal oxygen consumption
This section should be written as a report that contains a title, introduction, aims, methodology, results, discussion/conclusion and references. You can use basic statistical analysis to interpret the data you collect.
This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:
LO1: Analyse and interpret data acquired from common laboratory and field-testing procedures used in the evaluation of human performance and the physiological assessment of athletes.
LO2: Analyse the roles of the physiological systems in relation to the acute and chronic stress of exercise and extreme environments.
LO3: Appraise physiological principles and their application to athletic training.
Task requirements
Exercise 1: Executive Summary
The report should be double-spaced and in font size 12, font type Arial or Times New
Roman.
Sections of the report should be clearly labelled with sub-headings
Pages should be numbered.
Exercise 2: Laboratory Report
The report should include sub-headings for each section
Graphs and tables should be correctly labelled
