Alternatie energy
Context:
“Our society relies on large amounts of energy and the world is becoming increasingly dependent on fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal etc…).
The industrialised nations such as those of Western Europe and North America depend almost entirely on these fuels and the developing nations are also increasing their use.
Renewable or Alternative Energy is a term used to describe sources of energy that occur naturally in the environment. For example, energy from the sun, the wind, or movement of the oceans.”
This task is an individual research task about the fundamental theory of the Alternative Energy within the Control Systems unit.
Assessment Task Description:
You are expected to research in the areas listed on the next page, relating to Engineering Principles and Processes.
TASK DELIVERABLES:
PART A:
A soft copy in PDF format of the engineering research report of 2000 – 2500 words, including diagrams (20 Marks) submitted via Google Classroom.
Students should focus the report on the importance of alternative energy in engineering and its appropriate fields.
Content to cover:
Engineering Principles and Processes
The nature and purpose of alternative energy systems (Do not use WIND power or WIND ENERGY Source)
Various types of alternative energy systems such as solar, wave, human, geothermal
Advantages and disadvantages of alternative energy systems
Electrical units and values of voltage, power, current and energy in relation to alternative energy systems
Each student must hand in their own report, soft copy submitted via Google Classroom in drop boxes provided). 2000-2500
words. The report must contain the following sections:
Title Page Key information about the report including your name and class as well as an image appropriate to the
purpose of alternative energy.
Contents Page A list of headings from Introduction onwards with page numbers.
Research General, but thorough research into the following areas:
Using relevant examples in the fields of alternative energy:
1. Research renewable or alternative energy and provide a description of what they are and their importance. Do NOT use WIND POWER or WIND POWER SOURCE.
2. Make a list of the different types of renewable energy.
3. Choose one example from the list and do a detailed investigation into the energy source. Include the following:
What it is.
How it works.
How and when it was developed.
Why it was developed.
Societal and Environmental Impact
The impact of alternative energy on society and the physical environment
Links to Industry
Emerging technologies that relate to alternative energy technologies, and areas of employment within the engineering industry
Bibliography A reference of any resources used to write your report or to research about any aspect of this task.
