This week’s discussion is about organizational characteristics of our work environments, defining several types of organizational power, and how that power affects professional relationships within the workplace.

Describes four different sources of power which are authority, reward, control of information, and coercion (Weiss & Tappen, 2015). Power is natural given to persons placed in an authoritarian role (Weiss & Tappen, 2015).

A small list of the possible consequences includes loss of respect, loss of collaboration and cooperation, communication breakdowns that could result in patient harm, and loss of position within the organization.
