Week 5 Overview
Introduction
Topic: Criminal Investigation and Case Management
Drug enforcement cases seldom involve a single individual or a single crime. Rather, the arrest of an individual in possession of a quantity of illegal drugs sufficient to infer the intent to distribute is much more likely to be the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
That arrest may connect to a vast enterprise of criminal activity involving dozens to thousands of people locally, nationally, and even internationally.
While the scope and scale of these investigations is limited by the skills and talent of the investigator, it is also limited by the drug enforcement policies of the law enforcement agencies and the available resources.
The learning resources for this week, and those referenced in Week 6, are presented to provide insight into how criminal investigations of drug cases are conducted and managed.
