The very nature of science is that new data could potentially come along that would require us to adjust our understanding of something we thought we had “figured out.ʼ As such, you should never set out to ʻproveʼ or demonstrate the ʻtruthʼ about something. Instead, set out to ʻtest,ʼʻdocument,ʼ or ʻdescribe.ʼ Instead of saying “our data proves the hypothesis,” say “our data supports the hypothesis.”
