Choose an example of a group that you are not a member of, which has
experienced ‘othering’ within contemporary society. Apply the concepts of:
identity
intersectionality
resistance
in order to develop an action plan on how to be an ‘ally’ to this group.
To develop your action plan, you are required to:
i. define and examine what ‘othering’ is and identify how your group
experiences ‘othering’
ii. develop an analysis on how and why ‘othering’ occurs and manifests
iii. apply relevant theories and policies introduced within the module to
support your strategy
iv. reflect on your own positionality and identity; e.g. why you are not
‘othered’ in the same way as your chosen group
v. provide a critique of ‘allyship’
vi. justify how your action plan will support and/or aid your chosen group
