This assignment will describe and critically analyse gender imbalance in primary education, which is a gender-related issue current to primary teaching. Firstly, gender imbalance in an educational context will be defined, then two separate entities of gender imbalance will be discussed.
One being the feminisation of primary teaching, which will consider the proportion of male teachers against female teachers and the potential reasons behind this.
The second component being the gender attainment gap, looking at the notion that boys typically underachieve in comparison to girls. Both entities will be discussed and then linked using theoretical perspectives of gender. Finally, a personal viewpoint will be taken up while being mindful of the theories and existing literature.
