Discuss the factors that you have encountered in your studies in this course that mediate: 1) cultural production by women; and 2) our knowledge of this production. Refer to examples of women artists and their work from the course material to support your discussion.
The essay should be a maximum of 1500 words. Refer to the Style Sheets for information regarding the acknowledgment of sources.
Refer to the lives and works of a number of women artists from across the course material. This is not an essay about ONE artist exclusively. Also, you are encouraged to refer to specific works of art by your chosen artists….underline titles and include sources in parenthesis.
The essay topic is intended to encourage you to think about the course as a whole and look for common themes, attitudes and patterns that you have noted as you worked through the course material. For this assignment you do not have to do research beyond the units, text and readings. Although you are encouraged to order library books or view journals on-line, you are not required to do so in order to get a good mark. I do not want summaries of two or three manual units and you should not rely excessively on one source for long sections of your essay. Rather I am looking for how you make connections, draw conclusions.
