1. Who the immigrants are in Britain, and language needs of the immigrants and their families. What are their socio-economic background, education, culture and gender.

How this effects their access to language provisions depending on their background. When did they arrived in the UK. (mass immigration…when). Their reasons for migrating. What occupations do they hold in the UK? (taxi drivers, business owners, housewives…etc)

2. Their integration into the wider community and lack of integration. How and why they are not in the ‘in group’ and how can they become a member of the majority group in Britain.

3. Why are immigrants who do not speak or learn the English language seen as having a tendency for being violent? (refer to Race Riots 2001 in Oldham and other Race Riots in the UK).

4. The pros and cons of maintaining their cultural heritage and either or the host countries. What are the privileges? (Financial, personal, identity/ access to Social Security benefits/ nationality… etc

5. What provisions have been made in the in the past to accommodate their language needs. Also what provisions/remedies have been suggested and should be made to accommodate their language needs.

6. What does England expect immigrants to do and is this a realistic expectation. How does  it identify an individual as a British national? What legislation(s) have been created to assimilate migrants into the British society? What are the ideology of the British government concerning this matter.

7. Countries that have been successful in accommodating the language needs of immigrants and their families and why. (give examples)

8. Countries that have been less successful in accommodating the language needs of immigrants and their families and why. (give examples)
