REFLECTION PAPER
Review the information below about an English Language Learner who has recently arrived in the country.
Write a 2-to-3-page reflection that includes a description of the activity that you chose for developing her language skills, and explain why this activity would be appropriate for the student’s level of English proficiency.
Your paper should include a description of the student (including an estimated WIDA level), the ESOL strategies that you will use to implement this activity, any accommodations or scaffolding that you will provide for your student, and a rationale for how this activity promotes interaction and collaboration in the classroom.
Explain how you will make a cultural connection with the student and how you will collaborate with other professionals at the school as well as her parents or guardians.
For the conclusion, add a personal reflection on how your learning from this assignment will help you design and deliver meaningful and effective instruction to your ELLs.

Juanita is a 4th grader who arrived in the U.S. from Honduras about seven months ago.
Uses simple phrases to communicate about familiar topics.
Can get her own lunch and plays with peers at recess.
Can follow simple directions spoken clearly and slowly.
Can label diagrams using word banks and write simple, short paragraphs using sentence starters.
Has limited reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Loves math and was a high achieving student in her country.
Her parents value education and want her to learn but neither one speaks English.
