Joshua Gamson argues that celebrity culture today is quite different than celebrity culture in the past. Whereas in previous times, celebrities were “a class of people perceived as extraordinary and treated to extraordinary lives,” today, Gamson argues, celebrity revolves around a fascination with the ordinary.
