Informative speech: What does it mean to be a single mother?
Write and deliver an informative speech explaining a community to which he/she/they belong to the class. You will have 5-6 minutes to tell the class about what it means to be a member of your chosen community.

1. Select your community; this is your subject.
Ideas to consider:
Interest. Communities of people who share the same interest or passion.
Action. Communities of people trying to bring about change.
Place. Communities of people brought together by geographic boundaries.
Practice. Communities of people in the same profession or undertake the same activities.
Circumstance. Communities of people brought together by external events/situations.
2. Select your role; this is your topic.
3. Use the Informative Speech Outline Format as a guide to write the body of your speech. You must use complete sentences throughout the outline. You are speaking extemporaneously, so do not write it out like an essay – use outline format only.
4. Applying the strategies learned in Module 9. Write a complete introduction and conclusion.
5. Using your outline as a guide, create note cards with key words and phrases to use during your speech.
6. Practice your speech at least 6 times before recording. You should practice in front of another person for feedback (can be done electronically through video chat!).
