RETIREMENT SEEKING
After much thought and consideration, I write to inform you of my decision to retire as Charge Nurse at PABHC, effective [date]. After much deliberation, I have come to the difficult conclusion that the best course of action for my health and well-being is to step back from my duties at the hospital and focus on my recovery.
I joined PABHC in 1998 as a Registered Nurse and worked diligently to become the Charge Nurse two years later. Over the last 25 years, I have been proud to contribute to the organization’s growth in various ways. We have weathered our fair share of highs and lows, but the healthcare team has remained resilient. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we all made significant sacrifices and went above and beyond to save lives, an effort that I am incredibly proud of. I have also worked alongside highly skilled and dedicated interdisciplinary professionals, an experience I will always cherish. I remain proud of the many achievements we have made together. I was inspired by the resilience of the healthcare team and the sacrifices everyone made to save patients. I have enhanced safety and health outcomes by working with the hospital’s dedicated interdisciplinary professionals.
I have been on leave for six months due to back pain. The problem persists and requires more time for me to care for myself. The commute and workload associated with the charge nurse role are not feasible for my current health status. I cannot manage the workload and pressure of my role under my current health circumstances, particularly given the additional strain of a one-hour commute to and from work for my three-night shift schedule.
I was drawn to PABHC when it was a private, not-for-profit Roman Catholic hospital because I connected with its mission and vision. This was my second home until 2014 when it became a PHC corporate. Since then, I have noticed a shift from the vision of its founders, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. Despite my years of service, I have not been fairly rewarded. With a master’s degree, I still earn the salary of a registered nurse. I have repeatedly applied for the position of Nurse Practitioner in this healthcare system but have not been successful. It was a significant factor in my decision to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program to go into private practice eventually.
I recognize that now is the time to end my career at PABHC in the best interest of my health and well-being. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to serve the organization as a charge nurse for over 23 years. I am deeply honored to have been part of this healthcare team and to have served the organization and its patients with dedication and commitment. I am confident that the team at PABHC will continue to provide the best care to its patients and serve the community with excellence. I have made many lifelong friendships and have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented and passionate professionals in the field. I am confident that their hard work and dedication will continue to help PABHC reach its goals and exceed expectations.
Please get in touch with me if there is anything I can do to ensure a smooth transition in the remaining period. I wish PABHC continued growth and success..
Wishing the hospital all the best for the future.
