Today, you will watch a film based on a true story called In the Time of the Butterflies. Released in 2001, this film takes place during dictator Trujillo’s regime. You will learn about three sisters who fought for equality and tested Trujillo’s authority in attempts to bring change to the people of the Dominican Republic. The Mirabal sisters’ heroic actions, especially during this time of oppression, not only brought change to the government, but also reshaped the country as a whole.
