Critical Thinking
Using the usual MLA format you learned in English 1A (double-spacing, 1″ margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, heading and header, etc.), write a 2-page, 4-paragraph essay on the topic in the blue essay prompt box below. Follow the essay organizational method located in the gray box as you structure your essay.
Essay Prompt:
Analyze and exemplify how a single particular real-life situation would require a person to put into play two of the critical thinking attributes (chosen from the bullet point list below and covered earlier in the active definition of critical thinking narrated Powerpoint).
Analysis of a situation (analysis = closely examining one or more elements in order to gain a better understanding of the whole)
Awareness of bias (whether one’s own or the bias of one’s sources)
Keeping an open mind
“Self Defense” against faulty logic, misleading claims, or propaganda
Creativity (a willingness to look at problems or situations in new or innovative ways)
Be sure that you are analyzing the same situation throughout the whole essay and that you choose only two of the above critical thinking attributes to apply in your response. (do not use buying a car as your situation.)
