The political socialization process for individuals happens with time, and the process starts with the family and can include one particular event. If you do not consider yourself a “political person”, the lack of engagement or discussions about politics is a part of your socialization process.
1. Identify the individual or event in your life that has impacted your political socialization process. (For example, for some individuals, the events of September 11 or the inability to participate in the vote because of racial conditions are possible events). How has this event or person shaped your political ideology?
The projections for the 2016 Presidential Election featuring Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were wildly inaccurate (see projection links in Unit 2). Lack of Interest in Political Issues, Difficulty Measuring Intensity, Lack of Information, Limited Respondent Options, and Survey Error are cited as shortcomings in polling. Several factors may explain the difference between the polls and the election results. Below are questions about general polling and another specific to the 2016 Presidential Election.
