Classmate Passage:

Political parties are an incredible part of our government in the United States. Republicans and democrats go head-to-head at the voting polls every couple of years for state elections and every four years for presidential elections. There are constant comparisons of how the country improves or declines when certain parties are in office. When studying what affect governors and presidents have on employment and inflation, it was clear how republicans had a more positive effect on the economy.

With a p-value less than .01, it was clear that republican governors and presidents had the better effect on the government. This information is important to include in the study since a p-value should be below .05 to be considered publishable. When flipping over to the democratic party, the information is again publishable, only democrats’ effect on the economy is negative. As for the x- and y-axis’s, they do not explain specific details on the factors of the decline or decrease of the economy, rather just labeling which way is a positive effect versus negative.

P-hacking is very unethical and should be avoided. One type of bias, known as “p-hacking,” occurs when researchers collect or select data or statistical analyses until nonsignificant results become significant (Head et al., 2015). P-hacking can lead to incorrect results and false information, and negatively impact the research overall. When viewing and evaluating research, it is important that there are not bias manipulations in studies and research is not being published unethically, because it could happen! As for my own research, ensuring to be unbiased and relying on a detailed graph for information is just a start at making sure my research and results are accurate.
