Compare the unification process in Germany and Italy. What challenges did they face in their respective efforts to unify as nations?
What is "manifest destiny" and how did this ideology apply as a justification for American expansion in the nineteenth century? (Use specific examples of expansion in your answer.)
Explain the "Scramble for Africa" and its effects on European imperialism, and on Africa.
What were the four main causes of World War I and how did these causes intersect? (Provide two specific examples of effects on a particular region or country in your answer.)
How did the women’s movement achieve its goals in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries? What were the similarities and differences between calls for increased rights for women in different parts of the world?
How was World War II different from World War I, and how did their outcomes differ? (Explain at least two differences and two outcomes.)
What was the "three-world" order? What specific challenges did countries face in these "three worlds"? How did these distinctions emerge as a result of World War II? (Provide examples of specific countries in your answer.)
What motivated the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War? How did the Cold War affect the populations of the First and Second Worlds? (For the second part of the question, provide one example of how a specific country was affected by the Cold War.
