Introduction to Poetry Assignment
Write an analysis of a selected poem, chosen from the following. The papers are to be five paragraphs, approximately 750 words, and are to be written in MLA format. Choose from one of the following:
1. Analyze the role of the speaker in “The Unknown Citizen” or “The Workbox,”
2. Analyze connotations in “Mutability” or “My heart leaps up when I behold.”
3. Analyze imagery in “Pied Beauty” or “The winter evening settles down.”
4.Analyze figures of speech in “Metaphors.”
5. Analyze symbolism in “The Road Not Taken” or “The Lamb” and “The Tiger.”
6. Analyze symbolism in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.”
7. Analyze historical meaning in “Ozymandias”
Directions: Read the poem carefully, look up critical articles in the ECC Database, for # 5 and 6, look at the analysis on UTube, and write your paper the way I taught you in class.
