Make an informal pre-writing brainstorm of all of the ideas you can think of related to your topic. You can use a free write, a list, or a cluster, whichever you feel is most effective for you.
Look over your brainstorming work and consider which ideas are the most relevant and effective for your main idea, purpose, and audience.
Create a main statement that may be used for the full essay.
Review your brainstorming work and main statement, and make an outline for your essay, planning for three body paragraphs (or three main points that you will support with examples).
All three of the above parts, your initial brainstorming, proposed main statement, and outline of your three main points and examples, should be on one document
