Write an argumentative main-driven analysis of any aspect of Frederick Douglass’ autobiography, narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave.
Questions to Consider: (your paper should not try to systematically answer each of these questions):
What did “slavery” and “freedom” mean to Douglass? How does Douglass change throughout the book, and what were the key turning points of Douglass’ life?
What experiences and forms of oppression had the greatest impact on Douglass?
What strategies did Douglass deploy to appeal to his readers?
According to Douglass, what physiological effect did slavery have on its victims, and how did Douglass overcome those effects?
Your Paper Must:
Be argument-driven and argumentative. Your task is to make and defend a specific claim regarding Douglass’ autobiography.
Be evidence-backed. Your paper must analyze and cite examples from the text.
Be 4 – 8 pages, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman font (roughly equivalent to 1,200 – 2,000 words). Longer papers will be accepted but are not necessary.
