ASSIGNMENT-Complex System
Task-1 is about the application of reliability techniques to analyze the failure data.
In this task you are expected to select a complex system of your choice and have a good understanding of the system functionality and technical aspects of the system.
Collect historical failure and repair/maintenance data related to the system (the system could be repairable or non-repairable). The data should be from a realistic source.
Give a full technical description of the system selected and discuss data information such as the number of failures, inspections, faults, fault description, dates when each fault was detected, and the types of maintenance carried out.
Tabulate the data and carry out a data analysis such as event frequencies, histogram, bar, and other relevant charts, and discuss its representation.
Use suitable Statistical techniques such as descriptive Statistics in the context of reliability analysis. Identify the probability distribution that is adequate for the failure/repair process data sets.
Determine the best reliability models to consider, discuss the characteristics and the appropriateness of the reliability models chosen and give the Mathematical expression of the model.
Calculate and estimate the MTTF/MTBF, availability, standard deviation, failure rate, and show the expression of the reliability and the hazard function wherever necessary.
Calculate and estimate component reliability (if any) and the overall system reliability. Some additional reading is necessary to understand the reliability metrics
Task-2 is about hazards, risk of failures and approaches for system safety analysis.
In this task you are expected to identify the risk and hazards associated with the complex system you have selected. To carry out this, you need to fully understand the causes of failure and the issues relating to the system.
