Teen pregnancy is a critical and sensitive topic for me. I have friends who are now in the Human Services/ Social Work field because they became teen mothers at a very young age. Sharing their experiences with me helped me appreciate how delicate this situation can be and how having family and community support can be vital to the mother and baby’s welfare. Access to the right resources and support can make a huge difference in what may have been deemed a hopeless situation.”

“Teen pregnancy is generally unplanned making it a considerable problem. Hardly bigger than children themselves, teens are thrust into a position they may not be ready for, the physical and emotional care of a human being. Teenagers may act mature but still rely on their parents for food, shelter and support, not the ideal circumstance for the responsibility of a child. Personally, I grew up in a sheltered community where everyone, men and women, wait until marriage so I don’t have firsthand experience with unexpected pregnacy. Since most people hold the pro-choice view I thought it would be helpful to provide alternative options of agencies to this discussion, although uncommon ones.”
