Application essay:
From a young age, I have always been drawn to entrepreneurship. There is something about the challenge of finding a product or service that people need and then delivering it to them that gets my adrenaline going. And, of course, there is the satisfaction of completing a transaction and making a profit. So, when the fidget spinner craze hit in early 2017, I saw an opportunity and decided to jump in.
I started by researching the market and finding a wholesaler who could provide me with spinners at a low cost. Once I had my inventory, I set up an e-commerce store and started marketing the spinners to my network of friends and family. I also invested in some paid advertising on social media. Before long, I was getting orders from all over the country. In one month, I sold over 4,000 units and made a considerable profit.
Not only was this venture financially successful, but it was also incredibly fulfilling. It was gratifying to see so many people enjoying the product that I had sourced and marketed. The whole experience reaffirmed my belief that entrepreneurship is my calling. Going forward, I am excited to continue pursuing opportunities to bring new products and services to market.
This experience has demonstrated that I have the skillset and drive necessary to be successful as an entrepreneur. Not only did I identify a gap in the market and seize an opportunity, but I was also able to source products, set up an e-commerce store, and market effectively to customers all over the country. This venture was highly profitable, but more importantly, it showed me I have what it takes to be a successful business owner.
Moving forward, I am excited to continue pursuing opportunities in entrepreneurship and positively impacting the world through business. This experience taught me a lot about marketing and sales, and it’s something that I’m passionate about. This is just one example of my innovative thinking and drives to succeed. Given the opportunity, I am confident I will bring the same success to the UC campus’s business school community.
