Discussion post: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is a method of transmitting data packets between two endpoints via an Internet connection. This method of sending data packets is widely used because of its reliability. The method requires that data sent along a connection be monitored and tracked, which will allow the sending machine to determine where the packets are at all times before reaching their final destination. This ensures that all of the sent data is guaranteed to be sent to the receiving machine. While this extra effort to ensure packet delivery is beneficial, it comes at the cost of making data transmission times much slower. TCP is used for jobs such as e-mail sending (POP and SMTP) and webpage information transfer (HTTP and HTTPS).
User Data gram Protocol (UDP) is another method of transmitting data. However, UDP is much more efficient at sending data than TCP. This efficiency is achieved by not forcing the data to be tracked as it is sent to its destination. While the lack of error checking and tracking allows for faster transmission speeds, it allows packets to get IVOL III 11 I LAI IL does not
