I believe, what distinguishes the leader from others is having the ability to ignite enthusiasm in others, which means the leader can persuade and encourage others to work together for accomplishing a common goal or career and make them become their best version to fulfill their personal growth through the career in hand.
During my study year (2017), me and my friends founded a non-profit technology organization, I have been chosen for the organization supervisor role, because my friends believed in my abilities to encourage participation of our community in the organization .The main mission and vision of the organization is to serve our local community in terms technology information, information dissemination, and awareness.
However, after one year of establishing the organization, the work was not going well because of the lack of sufficient funding for the organization needs, for that in order to solve this issue and allocate the amount of money needed to continue the organization, I was allocating the income of the external work that I had to proceed the organization needs.
After graduation, I obtained deeper practical experience in my field of software engineering, it became more sense for me that there is a significant gap in understanding and utilizing artificial intelligence in my region despite the obvious need for such technology in many aspects of life. Furthermore, to create an example of such project, I decided to create an artificial intelligent project that would serve composers and musicians to generate a simulation for regional folklore music.
For this purpose, I have contacted many artificial intelligence experts to get the advice for how to start a project. However, Together we have created a team that can carry out the tasks of creating the AI program, data collection and preprocessing to generate such model. After five months, the project was successfully generating music like human! However, the product lacked the needed adoption by the musicians and composers due to their unawareness of this program as a useful tool. So to spread awareness on this project in particular and AI in general we conducted interviews on local TVs and social medias.
One of the main milestones of the project was when we participated in an annual technology competition in Iraq, called Rwanga Awards, and the project won the third place among hundreds of projects, this win led to further acknowledgment for the product and more adoption rate among musicians.
At the end, in my opinion we have to be leaders of our selves first and then become a leader for others. My previous experiences pave the way for me to become a leader and serve my region. I believe that the “Chevening program” will guide me through a path to progress my leadership style in order to have an opportunity and inability to discover my talents and figure where to put my skills in hopes of playing a bigger role of duty and responsibility in society, toward my future.
