As an HR manager, I would work to make changes to compensation and benefits. Our text describes incentives that some companies used for their employees such as with Hilcorp Energy actually rewarding employees $50,000 or a new car (Snell, 2016). The reason that employees received these incentives was because they achieved a challenge that included doubling the value of the firm, production rate, and oil and gas reserves (Snell, 2016). I would work to include the employees in discussions that focused on developing incentives that they would want. I would also include them in the conversations of what the challenges were that needed to be achieved. The overall goal would be for their opinions and perspectives to be included in the formulation of compensation changes. Another idea that was mentioned in our text that I would try to incorporate, would be the options that allow flexible start and end times (Snell, 2016). As a parent, I have seen how difficult it is to get personal things done for myself or my family. I feel that offering paid time off to employees can contribute to improving employee performance and satisfaction (Snell, 2016). In addition to this, it would also likely lead to better retention of employees.
