Psychology Writing Prompts
Choose 3 of the following writing prompts to complete (choose any 3 you wish). refer to the course syllabus for due dates for each. You will submit each assignment on D2L.
For each prompt, write a 1-2 page response (minimum of 1 page and a maximum of 2 pages). Your response should be double-spaced, using 12 pt. font. You will want to integrate information from your reading into your response but be sure to put the information into your own words. You will need to cite your textbook as a source, using APA format.
Chapter 2 – The scientific method is often described as self-correcting and cyclical. Briefly describe your understanding of the scientific method with regard to these concepts. Peer review is an important part of publishing research findings. What do we mean by peer review? Apply this information in your own life. Consider how much information is readily available to each of us (social media, internet etc.). Is it important to evaluate the source of the information?
Chapter 3 – What is Biological Psychology? Describe the relationship between biological psychology and other fields of psychology. Describe the major underlying assumptions of the biopsychosocial approach.
Chapter 6 – In this chapter, you learned about Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory. Consider the many different behaviors that you engage in on a daily basis and identify one or two that you think you learned through modeling. Describe these behaviors (only discuss positive behaviors!) and how they came to be modeled.
Chapter 7 – Describe 3 mental barriers to problem-solving. (intelligence)
Chapter 8 – Describe your current study methods and how you prepare for an exam. Based on your understanding of how the memory process works, describe two new strategies you want to try to improve your memory and improve your studying.
Chapter 9 – Discuss the major developmental changes that occur during the school years. Be sure to address each domain of development (physical, cognitive, social-emotional).
Chapter 11 – Describe the five factors in the five-factor model of personality.
Chapter 13 – Discuss and offer examples of both the positive and negative implications of group conformity. Discuss the potential for political use of the power of the group for social control.
Chapter 4 – What is REM and non-REM sleep? Define the different stages of sleep. Describe 2 ways you could improve the quality of your sleep.
Chapter 15 – Briefly describe the following disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and specific phobias.
