(ESSAY TO EDIT) University (4-year) Admission Essay
I was diagnosed at birth with processing disorders and decoding deficiencies and was able to receive IEP from Pre-K to 5th grade. I qualified to receive 504 service from 6th to 8th grade. Due to personal choices, I decided to challenge myself and leave the local public school system and enroll in co-ed; college preparatory high school. I made a choice that I would not receive any educational support services and would challenge myself. Covid-19 started in the beginning of my high school career and then I endured almost two and half years of emotional and physical bullying by my high school Lacrosse head coach which started Grade 9 through my first half of Grade 11. My family retained an amazing and supportive family attorney who guided me on the right path and we put a restraining order against the high school Lacrosse head coach. Then, I had received countless months, hours, years of 1:1 family counseling to help me overcome my emotional issues that were caused by the Lacrosse head coach. I made the difficult decision to leave the Lacrosse team and dealt with peer bullying which led to strangling. This was very overwhelming to myself and my family, especially my mother who has been a single mother and made sure I had the right amount of support academically and emotionally with the little money she brought home to make sure I was happy. My grades were not the best situation adding Covid, learning deficiencies, peer/coach bullying. I had to help my mother with my now 6 year old brother with homework, bathing, and feeding while I am dealing with my own battles and my homework. I am proud I received First Honors, National Honor Society, and will receive the Presidential volunteer community service award in May 2023. During my junior year, I received “A” both semesters for US History which is the college prep honors class. Currently, my senior year, I decided to push myself and make some sacrifices and take AP US Government & Politics. I was lucky enough to travel to London and York, United Kingdom February 2022 for the MUN Conference. I was selected as Senior MUN advisor leader for the upcoming MUN conference held in Prague and Vienna in January 2023. Lastly, this past summer June 2022 I was selected as one week overnight camp leader to assist the adults with autism, down syndrome and severe physical and learning disability which is why I want to study Sports Management. I want to give back to my community and help adults with disabilities to learn sports regardless of one disability. Throughout all my challenges I have promised myself to be true to myself and keep learning and be humble. Covid has made me more humble, compassionate, and loving human being towards my peers and adults. I am proud to say I started my high school as a scrawny 15 year old and received 2.0 GPA because of all the challenges I was faced and many people have laughed in my face that I would never go to college. I finished my 11th grade with an average GPA 3.2 GPA and my weighted GPA 2.90 GPA. I promised myself I will end my senior year strong. God has taught me to be strong and it’s not how you start your high school career but how strong you end the finish line.
