Simple Reactions and Changes
Pure, undiluted ethanoic acid is a colourless liquid (resembling water though with a noticeably higher viscosity). An aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is also colourless. When pure undiluted ethanoic acid is added, in an equimolar ratio, to an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, the products are sodium ethanoate and water. The sodium ethanoate remains in solution; evaporating the water will produce pure, white sodium ethanoate crystals. Although a chemical reaction has taken place there is little to observe at a macroscopic level until the crystals appear when the water is evaporated. However, at the sub-microscopic level of the particles there is a lot that has happened, including changes in the types of particle and bonding present, bonds broken and formed, and changes in attractive/repulsive forces between particles.
Your task:
producing online guidance for ‘A’ level chemistry students.
Your job is to produce mock-ups, with the appearance of webpages, so that professional web developers can convert your information into real webpages.
The webpages will explain what is going on, at the particle level, in the chemistry described in the introductory information above.
