Question 1
a) There are several ways that diseases can be categorised; this could be
whether they are communicable or not, and if so, how are they contracted, it
could be what kind of pathogen causes them etc.
Outline the various methods of categorising disease.
b) Explain the causes and risk factors of disease to include a comparison of the modes of transmission of infectious disease and their associated pathogens.
The explanation of non–communicable disease types should include examples
of diseases caused by environmental factors such as radiation and pollution,
diseases caused by lifestyle, inherited diseases, and autoimmune disorders.
Include a variety of examples that an ANP in a walk–in centre may encounter.
Your answer should be a maximum of 800 words in length.
Question 2
Influenza, Measles and COVID–19 are three viruses that the ANP may identify in a
walk–in patient. All three diseases have killed and permanently harmed millions of people. The ANP will need to diagnose and isolate patients with these viruses to
reduce chance of spreading the disease.
Using data and a wide variety of other evidence, analyse the spread of either
influenza, measles, or COVID–19 from 1950 or earlier to the modern day. Where
there is an increase or decrease in the figures use available evidence to explain why.
This should include details of when new treatments or practices were discovered and
how they reduced instances of disease and events that caused a change in the data.
Analyse patterns in the disease to see which segments of society, if any, were more
likely to be seriously ill or die from your chosen disease. This information could help
the walk–in clinic plan for prevention and treatment going forward.
Your answer should be a maximum of 600 words in length.
Question 3
Several deadly pandemics have been caused by Influenza, most recently in 1918,
and outbreaks each year still cause a great burden on walk–in clinics and hospitals.
The COVID–19 pandemic has been the cause of over 5.5 million deaths up to the
start of 2021.
The highly contagious measles virus continues to spread around the globe. In 2018,
cases surged to an estimated 10 million worldwide.
To assist the walk–in clinic, and NHS as a whole, plan for future initiatives, choose
one of the above diseases, compare and evaluate measures which might be or have
been taken by individuals, or through government policy/legislation, to reduce the
incidence of the disease.
This evaluation should not only describe the action in detail, but also focus on the
effectiveness of the action and address environmental, ethical, and financial aspects.
Your answer should be a maximum of 600 words in length.
