Topic: The emergence of “Jewish Internationalism” and the Damascus Affair.
Analyse the Damascus Affair and the perspective from which to look at the whole question of Jewish international solidarity or transnational Jewish associations in the nineteenth century which led to the formation of Alliance Israélite Universelle in 1860, twenty years after the affair itself.
The missions of Crémieux and Montefiore (and the positions taken by Consistoire Centrale in France and the Board of Deputies of British Jews) can themselves be seen as the beginning of “modern Jewish international politics.
Also, analyse the transformation of the Jewish Internatonalism in the context of the European (religious) Internationalism – see Abigail Green.
