Case analysis #4 Siah Turner
After you review the slideshow below pick a side, Prosecution or Defense. You will then become the Prosecuting Attorney for the local District Attorney’s office or the Defense Attorney for a man who is charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.
This trial will be a Bench Trial (no jury, only a judge: me).
The first sentence in your paper should be which side you are representing. Then do your best analysis of the information provided to you to prosecute or defend in court the alleged perpetrator who is charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.
Use terminology, information, courtroom language (available on Wednesdays powerpoint), evidence and tactics you have learned about in this class.
The only information you have for your evidence are some photographs of the scene of the crime. No eyewitnesses were questioned, nor were the officers or the person on trial. Do not use in text citations or outside resources, only your interpretations and evaluation of the photographs.
View each slide slowly and individually, make your arguments either way backed up with your evidence, facts, observations, etc.
The minimum amount of information you need to present is two single spaced pages and a maximum of three single spaced pages.
If you are the Prosecutor, you must convince (the Judge) that you have presented enough evidence for a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt.
If you are the Defense Attorney, you must convince (the Judge) that there is reasonable doubt that your client is not guilty of this crime.
Have fun and at the same time be serious, a man’s life is at stake.
