Patient Scenario
This poster will critically explore the clinical decisions made around a patient called Shuna Ali.
His name has been changed to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the NMC guidelines (NMC, 2018). Shuna 75yrs was admitted to the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) 4 weeks ago following a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Shuna remains on assisted feeding through the Nasogastric Tube (NGT) due to dysphagia (swallowing difficulty) he suffered from the stroke. He has been suffering with aphasia, past medical history of Hypertension and diabetes. Recently, he has been expressing depression and anxiety as he is now bedbound, incontinent and dependent on people for his daily care. Shuna expresses the wish to die and requests the withdrawal of all treatment.
